Akari Greenpoint is one of three Akari sauna houses in New York, located at 149 Franklin St in Brooklyn. The concept draws on Japanese onsen and sento traditions and is run as a membership-based neighborhood sauna. Each studio has two communal dry heat saunas, a cold shower and a cold pool, along with lockers, showers and changing rooms. Towels and slippers are available on site. Facilities are not separated by gender, swimsuits are expected and visitors must be 18 or older. Access is for members only, with no bookings needed during open hours and visits of up to two hours once per day. Daytime memberships cost 165 dollars per month and a limited four-visit plan costs 140 dollars per month. Active members can bring a guest for 35 dollars.
