Akari is a membership-based neighborhood sauna inspired by Japanese onsen and sento traditions, with a studio at 202 Grand St in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and sister locations in Greenpoint and the Lower East Side. Each studio has two communal dry heat saunas, a cold shower and cold pool, lockers, showers and changing rooms. Towels and slippers are provided, and bathing suits are required. Facilities are not separated by gender and visitors must be 18 or older. Access is for members only, with no bookings and no walk-ins. Members can visit once per day for up to two hours. Monthly options include a daytime weekday membership at $165, a four-visit membership at $140, and an all-access daytime membership at $205. Members can bring a guest for $35.
